Workplace Ergonomic Assessments Available Through Environmental Safety and Health

Ergonomics is the science of fitting workplace conditions and job demands to the capabilities of employees. These principles are used to improve the “fit” between the worker and the workplace increasing productivity and well being.

We are fortunate at UMBC to have workplace ergonomic assessments available for faculty and staff. To schedule your one-on-one appointment with a risk management consultant, visit the Environmental Safety and Health website and click “Ergonomic Info” under the “Quicklinks” section on the home page. Open and fill out the “UMBC Ergonomics Request Form.” Once this form is submitted, you will be contacted to schedule your appointment.

Share Your Wellness Activity Ideas!

At the Open Enrollment Health Benefits and Wellness Fair on April 19, we would like to share some tips from the campus community about favorite individual or coordinated group wellness activities. For example, starting your day with meditation, walking at lunch time, stretching at your desk, your favorite time management tip, a department walking group or “Biggest Loser” program.

Please share your favorite wellness activity at the UMBC Wellness Initiative myUMBC group.

UMBC Wellness Initiative: New Name, New Focus

The “UMBC Wellness in the Workplace Initiative” is now the “UMBC Wellness Initiative.” Wellness is vital to the effectiveness and well-being of everyone in our campus community (faculty, staff and students), and the name change reflects this value. Along with the name change, we have updated the logo and expanded the composition of the Wellness Collaboration Team to include student representation.

To help increase awareness about the initiative, the Collaboration Team has created a new “Wellness Initiative” myUMBC group to highlight upcoming programs, news and events. We invite you to become a member of this group at my.umbc.edu/groups/wellness. We also urge you to check out the Wellness Initiative website for resources and information.
