Christopher Corbett to Read at Annapolis Book Festival (4/17)

Professor of the Practice of English Christopher Corbett will be speaking Saturday, April 17, 12:30 p.m., at the Annapolis Book Festival about his two books on the 19th century American West – “Orphans Preferred:  The Twisted Truth and Lasting Legend of the Pony Express” (Random House/Broadway Books) and “The Poker Bride: The First Chinese in the Wild West” (Atlantic Monthly).

Campus Accessibility Discussion (4/16)

Facilities Management, Student Support Services and the Office of Human Relations is asking for your input for possible projects that will improve the physical environment of UMBC and meet the needs of students, staff, faculty and visitors with disabilities. Your input will help us to decide on which projects to submit for state capital funding.

The talk will be April 16, noon-1 p.m., at the University Center Ballroom.

Trauma Through the Lifespan (4/12)

Psi Chi Psychology Honors Society will host guest speaker E. Diane Champé, who will present Trauma Through the Lifespan: a personal account of her struggle with and recovery from an abusive childhood. In this presentation, Champé uses photographs and art work to share the long-term effects of child abuse and neglect. She describes the horrific childhood she endured which she was forced to keep a secret and relates the terrible psychiatric damage it caused.

This event will be Monday, April 12, 7-9 p.m., in the Administration Building, Lecture Hall 3.

Today’s Techno Kids (4/14)

The Office of Student Life Mosaic Center’s “UMBC Talks: A Diversity Dialogue Series” continues this semester every Wednesday noon-1 p.m., at the Mosaic Center in The Commons, Room 2B23. Join this facilitated discussion to learn more about this topic, voice your opinions and hear those of your fellow community members. This week’s discussion, Today’s Techno Kids: What are the effects of young kids having cell phones, iPods, Facebook and Twitter accounts?, will be on April 14.

These discussions are facilitated by faculty, staff and student leaders. For groups or classes of 10 people or more, RSVP.

Theatre with Dinner (5/1): RESERVE BY APRIL 16

The Friends of the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery invites you to the 13th Annual Theatre with Dinner. The play will be “The Cripple of Inishmaan” by Martin McDonagh, presented by the Department of Theatre and directed by Eve Muson. This event will be Saturday, May 1, with wine and soft drinks at 5 p.m. on the 7th floor, dinner at 6 p.m., remarks by Eve Muson at 7 p.m. and then the play in the Theatre at 8 p.m.
