UMBC Chess Team in the Baltimore Sun

UMBC’s chess team finished fourth in the 2011 President’s Cup tournament, which was held in Herndon, Virginia. It was UMBC’s worst finish in the tournament’s 11-year history. UMBC has won the tournament six times, including the last two years. The Baltimore Sun reported on the team’s disappointment at this year’s results. The final scores were: Texas Tech, 7; University of Texas at Dallas, 6.5; University of Texas at Brownsville, 6; and UMBC, 4.5.
