Erle Ellis, Geography and Environmental Systems, in Urbanite

Erle Ellis, associate professor of geography and environmental systems, talks about the impact human activities have had on the Chesapeake bay in an article appearing in the April issue of Urbanite.

“We’ve modified the Chesapeake Bay already so far from its native state that what it once was is almost irrelevant.” Ellis says in “The Bay Comes Calling” by Tom Horton. Ellis argues that the current geological epoch should be reclassified as the “Anthropocene” in recognition of the impact human activities have had on Earth’s ecosystems. “Let’s accept that the bay is our creation now and work to make it a good one.”
