Mary Stuart, Health Administration and Policy, in the Howard County Times

“There’s been a sea change in how we look at people who are aging with chronic illnesses,” observes Mary Stuart, director of UMBC’s Health Administration and Policy Program, in a Howard County Times article that highlights a new pilot program for people recovering from strokes. Stuart is investigating the benefits of improved fitness for stroke survivors through a pilot study funded by the Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System. “We’re taking these classes out of a hospital setting and promoting socialization and wellness,” Stuart notes. “Having a support group of peers to cheer you on is very reinforcing.”
