“Starting and running a business is a daunting prospect at any age but perhaps boomers are better suited to it than most,” says Denise Kingsmill in a Management Today article on innovative new research from Judah Ronch, dean of UMBC’s Erickson School, and Robert Singh of Morgan State University. At an economically challenging time when retirees are re-entering the workforce due to layoffs, lost savings and interest in second careers, Ronch and Singh are exploring how, as Kingsmill describes, “the mature mind has abilities that are critical for successful entrepreneurs,” such as improved regulation of emotional states, decreased impulsivity and increased focus.
