A mikveh—Jewish ritual bath—found under the Lloyd Street Synagogue in Baltimore is believed to be the oldest in the United States. The excavations, led by Esther Doyle Read, a lecturer in ancient studies, are funded by the Jewish Museum of Maryland as well as the Maryland Historical Trust and UMBC.
The story was picked up by Arutz Sheva (Israel National News), an English-language news website in Israel. Their story can be read here.
Read was also featured in the LA Times and Utah’s Daily Herald.
