UMBC political science lecturer Brigid Starkey appeared on ABC2 News this weekend, commenting on the planned deployment of 400 Maryland National Guard soldiers to Egypt. Starkey noted that Egyptians’ frustrations with their government have been building for years. She argued, “it would be very unwise for anyone representing the United States military to be involved in that zone at all… At this point, many feel that the United States is just on the wrong side of many of these regimes and it just needs to stand up more for democracy in the region.”
