UMBC Faculty in the Baltimore Sun

A recent op-ed in the Baltimore Sun argued that teachers’ master’s degrees do not affect the quality of their teaching.  Cited in the piece was research by UMBC faculty members Metin Ozdemir and Wendy Stevenson, who found that in 90 percent of studies, a teacher’s advanced degree either had no impact or, in some cases, actually had negative effects on student achievement.

The article, “Master’s degrees don’t produce better teachers,” appeared December 19 in the Baltimore Sun and can be read here.
