Memorial Service for John Flister

From: Joseph Regier, Director, The Commons

We are sad to announce the passing of former UMBC employee John Flister this past Sunday while a patient at the Seasons Hospice Center. He is survived by his wife, Maggie Lasaga-Flister, a son, Sebastian, daughters Claudia and Alexandra, two brothers and parents. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. this Saturday, December 18, at St. Mark Church, 30 Melvin Avenue in Catonsville.

John graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from UMBC in 1990. He later obtained a master’s degree from St. John’s College in 1993 while working for UMBC.

As an employee of UMBC, John was a well-known Transit supervisor who worked to build the current shuttle service by expanding routes and increasing ridership throughout his 20-year career. His principal job duties included coordination of driver training and fleet management.

John’s dedication and efforts on behalf of students, faculty and staff will be remembered by the UMBC community.
