Commencement Volunteers Needed – Release Time Granted

From Sandy Campbell, Director of Advancement Operations

It’s that time of year when we celebrate the achievement of our graduating students at the Undergraduate Winter Commencement ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, December 22, in the RAC. It takes many, many volunteers to execute a memorable event for the graduates and their families and friends, and help is still needed for the upcoming ceremonies.

In order to allow more staff to assist, release time will be granted. All campus offices will remain open, and services will continue to be offered. We ask supervisors to work with staff members to arrange for staffing coverage.

Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. until the ceremony is over and clean up is finished, usually around 12 p.m. Please use the volunteer registration website to sign up: my.umbc.edu/go/commencementvolunteer. You will see a brief description of the jobs available and the number of staff needed. You will receive a confirmation e-mail after you submit your selection. Volunteer training will take place on Monday, December 20, in the Retriever Activities Center at 1 p.m.

To show the campus’ appreciation for all who assist at Commencement, there will be a Volunteer Thank You reception hosted by the Provost’s Office and Institutional Advancement on January 12, at 3 p.m. in UC 312.

Thank you for your assistance.
