From Nancy Young, Vice President for Student Affairs
After 31 years of distinguished service to UMBC, Ramona Arthur will retire on December 1, 2010. Ramona began her career with the Office of Cooperative Education in 1979. She soon joined the Student Affairs staff where she served as Campus Activities Administrator, Assistant Director of the Student Union and Associate Director of the University Center. In these positions, she helped to open two union facilities and shaped many campus traditions.
In 2001, Ramona was appointed as the Director for Off-Campus Student Services where she continues to serve our students. During her tenure in this office, Ramona guided programmatic and service initiatives to support and retain both our undergraduate and graduate students who live off campus.
Ramona has been a tireless advocate for students from all backgrounds, but has been a particular champion for transfer students and students from under represented and under-served populations. Her strong connections with local apartment owners and neighborhood communities is evidence of the key role she has played in community outreach. We know you join all of us in Student Affairs as we thank Ramona for her service and wish her well.
Please join us for a retirement celebration for Ramona on Tuesday, November 30, 3 p.m.-5 p.m. in the Commons Fireside Lounge. If you would like to contribute to a retirement gift, please contact Shelly Graham at ext. 5-6504 or email@example.com by Tuesday, November 23.
