Elliot Hirshman, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
The Council of University System Staff (CUSS) has just notified us that a new category of award has been added to the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Awards. Campus nominations for these awards are due to the UMBC Staff Awards Committee by October 29, 2010. The three traditional categories in which staff can be nominated for an award are:
- Exceptional contribution to the institution and/or unit to which the person belongs
- Outstanding service to students in an academic or residential environment
- Extraordinary public service to the university or greater community
And the new category is:
Effectiveness and Efficiency. Administrative transformation: Improved effectiveness resulting in a minimum cost savings of $10,000
This new award initiative carries the same honor and the same stipend ($1,000) for the winner as the other Board of Regents Awards. Establishment of this new award by CUSS and USM presents an important opportunity for us to recognize and celebrate the critical leadership role staff members have played in responding creatively to the economic challenges of recent years. We look forward to seeing your nominations for outstanding staff accomplishments in this area.
