New University Registrar

From Elliot Hirshman, Provost

We are very pleased to inform you that the search for the university registrar has concluded and Steven Smith will be joining the UMBC community Monday, November 8. As university registrar, Steve will provide leadership for the delivery of academic services including the oversight of academic records, course registration, class scheduling, articulation agreements, degree audit and undergraduate progression toward degree completion. Steve will work in partnership with faculty and other administrative units to develop and implement academic policies and procedures that support student matriculation and academic progress.

Steve comes to us most recently from St. Peter’s College where he served as registrar and executive director of enrollment services. As registrar and executive director, Steve managed several functional areas including records and registration, financial aid and student accounts. He also led several key implementations including a new student information system and a document imaging system. Steve received a B.S. in Business Administration from Glenville State College and a M.A. in Business Administration from West Virginia University. Please join us in welcoming Steve to UMBC.

We wish to express our deep appreciation to Dr. Kriste Lindenmeyer, search committee chair, for her leadership and commitment to this important search.
