Update on Instructional Continuity

From Elliot Hirshman, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs; Antonio Moreira, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs; and John Fritz, Assistant Vice President Information Technology

As we approach the mid-point of the semester, winter will soon be here and with it the possibility for prolonged campus closures due to bad weather. We encourage you to plan ahead for the best approach to ensure instructional continuity for your classes should a lengthy closure be necessary.

We wish to inform you that DoIT has recently purchased 100 USB headsets and microphones and they are available for pick up from AV services should you decide to use them for your classes and for purposes of ensuring instructional continuity. Using a USB headset and microphone opens up a number of options with Blackboard, Wimba and other screen casting tools beyond what can be done with an MP3 player.

We will continue to make available the tools for instructional continuity implemented last year and suggest that you visit the Office of the Provost website (www.umbc.edu/provost/planning.html) and click on the Instructional Continuity link for further details.

Thank you for all of your efforts in ensuring that our students receive the best possible instruction in the event of a prolonged campus closure.

Best wishes for a productive academic year.
