Health Care Update for Human Resources

New federal legislation allows dependent children to remain covered on employee benefit plans up to age 26 and removes lifetime maximums and annual dollar limits on certain benefits. The legislation identifies the effective date as the first day of the plan year following September 23, 2010. The State of Maryland plan year begins on July 1 of each year. Therefore, the new provisions will become effective July 1, 2011. The State Employee Benefits Division will provide more detailed information related to the new regulations during the next Open Enrollment Period in April, 2011.
