Public Policy Ph.D. student Alexia Van Orden has been appointed the student commissioner on the Maryland Higher Education Commission by Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. The Maryland Higher Education Commission is a 12-member coordinating board responsible for establishing statewide policies for Maryland public and independent colleges and universities and private career schools. In serving her one-year term as student commissioner, shd will represent the more than 337,000 college students in Maryland.
Van Orden graduated from UMBC in 2006 with a B.A. in History, and received her M.P.P. from UMBC in 2009. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. with a concentration in educational policy.
