Laura Lewis, Geography and Environmental Systems, in The Professional Geographer

Laura Lewis, an assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Systems, co-edited a focus section in the August issue of The Professional Geographer devoted to Agrobiodiversity Conservation. The section includes six papers examining the social and physical factors that contribute to the gain or loss of crop biodiversity in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa and Latin America. Lewis’ own paper, “Biogeography and Genetic Diversity of Pearl Millet from Sahelian Africa,” explores traditional farming practices that have strengthened crop resilience by allowing domestic millet to coevolve with wild and weedy relatives.
