Robert Provine, professor of psychology, was extensively quoted in several articles devoted to the science of laughter in the latest issue of New Scientist magazine. Provine is referred to as the “doyen of laughter research.” His work at UMBC has reshaped the entire research area and answered some questions around since Plato and Aristotle. The breakthrough research considered in several of the articles was conducted at UMBC in collaboration with undergraduates who were often co-authors of the papers.
