President Freeman Hrabowski was recently featured in a Q & A by the Washington Post regarding science for women and minorities. In the interview, he said, “For African Americans, Hispanics and low-income whites, the quality of their K-12 education is not as strong as that of their white counterparts. It’s rare that an African American has had AP Calculus in high school. African Americans and Hispanics are more likely to have low SAT scores. Also, more-advantaged students have more likely learned how to study hard and be disciplined enough to put in time and effort to succeed. A disproportionate amount of minorities are not from highly educated families.”
