The Arbutus Lions Club is considering disbanding after more than 60 years of service to the community. Faced with declining membership numbers, the local club voted to disband at a special meeting June 28. Edward Orser, professor of American studies, said civic organizations like the Lions have struggled in recent decades, attributing the decline to the changing lifestyles of Americans. In the past, Americans stayed close to home and their lives centered around a village center, he said. “People have so many other options,” Orser said.

The article, “Arbutus Lions Club considers shutting down,” ran July 28 in the Arbutus Times.
