Direct Deposit Advices

From: Lisa Drouillard, Director, Human Resources

In June 2009, Human Resources Payroll implemented direct deposit advice suppression as one of our cost containment initiatives.  The check advice suppression eliminated the printing of a direct deposit advice each payday.  After implementation of this plan, employees did not receive a direct deposit advice unless a request form was completed and processed.

This year, the Maryland State Central Payroll Bureau (CPB) is implementing a direct deposit advice suppression plan and will no longer print direct deposit advices for State employees (including USM institutions) effective July 1, 2010.  In order to assist with the transition, we will continue to print direct deposit advices for those employees who have elected to receive them.  Beginning with the check dated September 2, 2010, UMBC will no longer print and distribute direct deposit advices.

To ensure continued access to direct deposit advice data (for viewing or printing), employees who have not already done so are encouraged to create an account via the Payroll Online Service Center (POSC).  The POSC has been available to most employees since June 2005 and offers 12 rolling months of pay statements.  For instructions on how to create a user ID and password for the POSC visit www.umbc.edu/hr/Payroll/ and select the link for POSC New User Instructions.

Computers are available at several locations on campus.  For more information about the computer labs on campus visit https://spaces.umbc.edu/display/oit2/Computer+Labs

In addition, dedicated computers are available to staff who work in Transportation Services, Police and Physical Plant Departments.

The Central Payroll Bureau (CPB) has just announced that employees may now direct deposit their paycheck into a savings account.  Previously an employee’s only option was direct deposit into a checking account.  Effective July 1, 2010, employees will have an option of choosing either a checking account or a savings account, BUT NOT BOTH.

Please pass this information on to your employees.  This new process gives employees another option for direct deposit and it opens up a direct deposit possibility for employees who have difficulty obtaining or maintaining a checking account.

Attached is the NEW DIRECT DEPOSIT FORM that must be used immediately.  Please DESTROY any old forms that you have.  Old direct deposit forms already in process and signed by the employee prior to July 9th will be accepted by CPB.

The new direct deposit form is available on the CPB website:  http://compnet.comp.state.md.us/

From that website click on POSC and make any changes to, or cancelation of, an existing direct deposit.  However, POSC will not let you initially set up direct deposit; CPB still needs an original ‘hard’ copy with the employee’s signature to begin direct deposit whether it is into a savings or checking account.  Once the employee’s direct deposit has been implemented, changes to, or cancelation of, direct deposit should be made via POSC or by using the new direct deposit form.

Human Resources will no longer print and distribute direct deposit advices effective check dated September 2, 2010.

  1. Skype has established its online-dependent consumer beta on the world, soon after starting it extensively in the United states and You.K.
before this month. Skype for Internet also now works
with Linux and Chromebook for instant online messaging
connection (no video and voice but, these call for a plug-in set up).

The increase in the beta adds support for an extended set of different languages to help you reinforce that overseas user friendliness
