UMBC to Host Graduate Psychology Conference (7/8-11)

UMBC will host the 16th annual National Black Graduate Conference in Psychology on July 8-11.  The conference is a chance for graduate students in psychology to network with other students who are studying issues relevant to the African American community and attend research presentations and round table discussions.

The conference was organized by Shawn Bediako, assistant professor of psychology, who is a member of the conference’s planning committee.  He said that other members of the planning committee urged him to hold the event at UMBC after seeing the positive media coverage that came out of UMBC’s recent U.S. News and World Report ranking.

About 60 students will attend the conference, including several UMBC students. “It’s a good opportunity for students from across the country to get together,” Bediako said. “It’s a stepping stone for people who want to continue in academic psychology.”
