From: Lynne C. Schaefer, Vice President for Administration & Finance
The construction trailers have arrived, signaling the beginning of construction of Phase 1 of our new Performing Arts & Humanities Building (PAHB). There are a number of parking and campus access changes that will occur in the next week or so as a result. This message provides details on those changes.
1. Parking Lots #9, 9A and 16:
- As of June 1st, Lots 9, 9A and 16 will be closed and no longer available for parking. Lot #8 will be fully converted to faculty/staff parking only. Temporary signage will be posted.
- Faculty/staff permit holders who previously parked in Lots 9A and 16 may relocate to Lot 8, the lot next to lots 9, 9A and 16.
- During the month of June, installation of a parking gate enclosing a portion of Lot 8 will occur. All current gate card holders for Lots 9A and 16 will have access to this new gated area.
- Student parking will be available on Lot 22 or Hilltop Circle, as well as other locations across campus.
These changes are the first phase in our preparations for the new parking management plan that will go into effect with the start of the fall 2010 semester. We will share information on this plan over the course of the summer.
Should you have any questions or concerns, contact Parking Services at ext. 5-2551 or parking@umbc.edu.
2. Other Parking/Construction Notes:
- Handicapped Parking: The handicapped parking displaced due to the PAHB project will be provided on the upper level of Administration Drive Garage and in the Commons Garage. This is a temporary situation. Following completion of PAHB Phase 1 in summer 2012, handicapped parking will be available adjacent to PAHB.
- Pedestrian Access: The Construction Manager is installing a pedestrian path around the construction site for access to the campus core from Lots #8 and #22.
- Service Vehicles: Service vehicle spaces displaced by the PAHB project will be provided on the upper level of Administration Drive garage.
- Loading and Unloading Access: This access for ITE, ESC, UC, Academic IV, Fine Arts and Chemistry will be available from the south through the existing access gate without any restrictions.
This is a temporary situation for Fine Arts and Chemistry only. That is, after completion of PAHB Phase 1 in summer 2012, access to the Fine Arts loading dock will be reinstated as it exists today.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as our new Performing Arts and Humanities Building construction is launched.
