Claudia Galindo, Language, Literacy and Culture, in Education Week

A research study conducted by Claudia Galindo, an assistant professor in the Language, Literacy and Culture Ph.D. Program, was featured in Education Week on May 3. Galindo worked with Bruce Fuller, a professor of education and public policy at the University of California, Berkeley, to compare the social skills of children from different ethnic and racial groups and social classes at the start of kindergarten. They looked at how those social skills helped the kindergartners to acquire math skills and found a strong correlation between their social competency when entering kindergarten and the gains they made in math skills during kindergarten.

The story, “Latino Kindergartners’ Social Skills Found Strong,” ran Monday, May 3, in Education Week.
