I am saddened to announce the passing of one of our colleagues in Facilities Management, James Williams, who passed away Tuesday morning. Williams came to Facilities Management in 1983 as an area zone mechanic supporting Residential Life facilities. He transitioned to the carpentry shop in 1997 where he completed the carpentry apprenticeship program. During his years at UMBC, he acquired several skills, making him a jack-of-all-trades. He transitioned to support facilities operations at South Campus in 2003.
James is fondly remembered for his integrity, warm smile and charismatic nature. He loved fishing and learned to do so at a young age from his grandfather. His greatest joy was in his family, as a father to five children. His bright smile was always the first thing people saw. His eyes would sparkle when he shared his latest stories of his family, fishing or a recent card game. Remember James and his family, friends and colleagues during this very difficult time.
The viewing and funeral services for Williams have already been held.
