Sandy Parker, associate professor and chair of geography and environmental systems, was interviewed by Urbanite for its recently published “Green Issue.” Commenting on UMBC academic programs focused on the environment, Parker said, “Environmental science and environmental studies programs give students a broad range of skill sets.” His students have gone on to work for federal agencies such as the National Park Service and the National Geospacial-Intelligence Agency. They’ve landed jobs with county planning departments, fire and police departments, private environmental consulting firms, military contractors such as Northrop Grumman and even the United Parcel Service. From Parker’s perspective, the environmental field is wide and full of possibilities.
The article, “Looming ecological meltdown – and a different kind of green – inspire a stampede of academic programs focused on the environment,” ran in the April issue of the Urbanite.
