Christopher Corbett, English, on NPR’s “Weekend Edition”

The Pony Express dispatched its first rider from Saint Joseph, Missouri, on April 3, 1860 – 150 years ago. On NPR’s Weekend Edition, Professor of the Practice of English Christopher Corbett discussed the legend of the Pony Express and his book, “Orphans Preferred: The Twisted Truth and Lasting Legend of the Pony Express.” Corbett said there’s a good reason the mail service is still remembered today. Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show probably did the most to keep the legend of the Pony Express alive. He said the show, which toured the world, always included the Pony Express in its productions.

The article, “150 Years Later, Pony Express Rides On In Legend,” ran Saturday, April 3, on NPR’s “Weekend Edition.”

A version of the article also ran in the Wall Street Journal on Friday, April 2.
