Journalist Helene Cooper fled her home country of Liberia as a young woman when civil war erupted in 1980. On Wednesday, April 21, 7 p.m., in the Albin O. Kuhn Library, 7th Floor Open Area, she will read excerpts from her memoir, “The House at Sugar Beach: In Search of a Lost African Childhood,” and discuss the experience of growing up in Liberia. She will also share her insights about the Obama administration from her lens as The New York Times White House correspondent. This event is part of the Humanities Forum and is sponsored by the Dresher Center for the Humanities with support from the Department of English. The event is free and open to the community. Light refreshments will be served after the lecture.

I’ll be there and am interested to hear about her observations of Obama after 15 months in the White House.
