During spring break, several students spend their vacation time volunteering through UMBC’s Alternative Spring Break program. One group helped out at The Arc of Carroll County, an organization that works with and advocates for people with developmental disabilities. During the week, the students pay $75 to stay at school, have their meals and get transportation to The Arc and back to UMBC. The program was started by Ben Davis ‘11, biological sciences, who works at The Arc when he isn’t at school. “I’ve always been involved with special needs,” Davis said. “The main thing was to break the barrier.”
The article, “Students from UMBC Volunteer at The Arc of Carroll County for a Week,” ran Thursday, March 18, in the Carroll County Times.
