On March 9, the Faculty Senate unanimously adopted the following resolution:
Whereas, this winter season has eclipsed all snowfall records in Baltimore, with epic blizzards in February inundating the campus with 49 inches of snow in the first 10 days of the month, accumulating a historic total of 79.7 inches in the winter months of 2009-2010.
Whereas, UMBC administrators, associate and classified staff, police, essential personnel, Facilities Management staff, Resident Life staff and Chartwells staff continued to serve the university throughout this storm, maintaining the constant care of students, facilities and fellow staff.
Let it be resolved that the Faculty Senate expresses its thanks and admiration for the dedicated service of every person weathering this blizzard on behalf of our campus.
Let it be known that this laudable effort was committed even at the cost of personnel staying on campus throughout the storm and recovery, away from their families and loved ones.
We commend their service, which insured the continued well-being and sustenance of the students, and the essential accessibility of campus facilities.
We express our deep gratitude for the self-sacrifice demonstrated by UMBC administrators, associate and classified staff, police, essential personnel, Facilities Management staff, Resident Life staff and Chartwells staff on behalf of the students and university community during the historic blizzards of February 2010.
