Warren Cohen, professor emeritus of history, has a new book on the shelves. The fifth edition of “America’s Response to China: A History of Sino-American Relations” was recently published by Columbia University Press. Cohen is one of the country’s leading diplomatic historians, and “America’s Response to China” is the standard resource for a succinct, historically grounded assessment of an increasingly complicated relationship. The fifth edition addresses the issues related to China’s rise with a new chapter titled “America in the Age of Chinese Power.” Writing for the American Political Science Review, John King Fairbank said the book offers “a fresh new look at the history of United States diplomacy towards China. . . . The subject will never be the same again.”
