Professor of the Practice of English Christopher Corbett’s book, “The Poker Bride,” was featured in The New York Times. Corbett’s new book, “The Poker Bride,” documents the little-known story of the tens of thousands of immigrant Chinese who arrived in the West over the next decades, hoping to strike pay dirt. Of the book, The New York Times states: “In restoring to the poker bride a more honest and complete history, Corbett undoes generations of self-serving mythology.”

The article, “Of Gold and Bondage,” ran February 16.

“The Poker Bride” was also featured as one of this week’s "Hot Reads" by the Daily Beast. The review was posted on “Blogs and Stories,” a division of the Daily Beast, on Thursday, February 18.
