Chris Corbett, professor of the practice of English, will read from his new book, “The Poker Bride: The First Chinese in the
Wild West,” on Tuesday, March 9, 4 p.m., at the Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery. Corbett’s book explores the Chinese immigrant experience in the U.S. by probing the true story of a young woman who survived a long, challenging and
remarkable life that began with being sold overseas. The Wall Street Journal said the book captures "the essence of the American experience. Corbett, an award-winning columnist and former news editor for the Associated Press, is the author of two previous books, and his journalism has appeared widely in newspapers including The New York Times, Washington Post, and LA Times. In addition to his teaching, he serves as the faculty advisor for The Retriever Weekly.
