Yvette Mozie-Ross, Enrollment, in the Baltimore Sun

In a recent Baltimore Sun article, UMBC was mentioned among Johns Hopkins and Loyola as schools seeing a rise in student applications this year. The change in applications will cause UMBC to be more selective as their applications are not only up 27 percent – the applicants’ average SAT score is up 17 points as well. “It’s looking good,” said Yvette Mozie-Ross, assistant provost for enrollment management. “I don’t know that you could ever get too many applications.”

UMBC’s Web site proudly states "We’re Number One" next to a picture of the U.S. News & World Report college issue. It’s hard to quantify the impact of such attention, Mozie-Ross said, but one possible sign is the 17 percent rise in applications from out-of-state students.

The article, “Loyola, UMBC, Hopkins enjoy jump in applications,” ran Sunday, January 17.
