Check out one staff member’s pictorial blog post about the blizzard that hit Maryland this weekend. He captured some great photos of UMBC!

  1. We should have had Jan 21st off. The sidewalks around the campus apartments have not been cleared as of this morning (Walker and West Hill). In the direction towards campus police, as many of us cut through the staff and student lots by campus police to get to class and the commons. Even the pathway from campus police connecting the parking lot to the main stairway by the fine arts building was unaccessible to students. Anyone who has some form of mobility issues would have found campus very dangerous today.

Yes we had a big storm, and physical plant has been working hard; however, needed walkways were not cleared for residential and commuter students to access the heart of campus.

  2. I and quite a number of fellow students agree with Lilly 100%.

  3. I agree with the above, my classmates and I almost slipped and fell many times trying to get to class and back to our cars on Monday nite. There should have been more salt put down, it was rediculous.

  4. While in an exam on the 21st in Lecture Hall 1, a man fell and hurt himself rather badly right outside the doors. They had to call campus police, an ambulance and the whole 9 yards. Leave it to UMBC to dedicate TOO much effort to academics and not enough to the safety of it’s populace.

  5. I also completely agree with Lilly. The weather was ridiculous. I’m a commuter and the roads in Silver Spring were disastrous. Everything was closed that day, including the Federal Gov. Yet, UMBC was open. It was so ridiculous. When I got to campus, it was even worse. The sidewalks were packed with snow, not plowed and students had to walk on the slippery road. They risked the safety of the students and staff. I’m still disappointed
