Mary Rivkin, associate professor of early childhood education, is an advocate for children having space to play in the outdoors. She recently drafted a testimony and presented it to the Montgomery County Planning Board, urging officials to conserve the Capital Crescent Trail, a walk/bike bath that extends from Silver Spring, Maryland, to Georgetown in Washington, D.C. Many children use the stretch between Bethesda and Silver Spring because it’s a densely populated down-county area. Unfortunately, there are plans to replace that stretch with a Metro track – the proposed “Purple Line.”
Rivkin cited Governor Martin O’ Malley’s “Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights” proclamation in her testimony.
