Thank You from OCSS

Every October, the Office of Off-Campus Student Services (OCSS) sponsors Commuter Week. As a part of Commuter Week, we sponsor the Good Neighbor Program consisting of a series of community outreach programs, a raffle and a personal products drive to benefit Southwest Emergency Services (SWES), an agency in Catonsville that supports local families in our community during this economic crisis. The Good Neighbor program and Commuter Week is made possible with the support of our partners on- and off-campus.

Even in this challenging economic time, we were able to raise more than $700 in donations and personal products that SWES will be able to put to good use. We want to thank everyone who contributed to the products drive, contributed monetary donations and purchased tickets for the raffle. We especially want to thank Hendersen Webb, Inc., Continental Reality Corporation, and the Walker Avenue Apartments for donating the raffle prizes.

Throughout the month of October, OCSS also encouraged members of the UMBC community to reduce their carbon footprint through the Car Free at UMBC Challenge. By using alternate forms of transportation, participants saved 2,200 lbs of CO2. Thanks again for your support; we’ll see you next year.
