H1N1 Flu Vaccines

University Health Services (UHS) will be providing H1N1 flu vaccines (injections) by appointment only to members of the UMBC community that fall in one or more of the following categories:

* Immune-compromised individuals
* Pregnant women
* Caregivers of children under the age of 6 months

If you fall in one of the above categories, you may make an appointment for the H1N1 vaccine at UHS between Monday, October 26, and Friday, October 30. UHS is open Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m., and Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The UHS phone number is ext. 5-2542.

Note: UHS will be hosting an H1N1 flu vaccine clinic on Tuesday, November 3, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., in the University Center Ballroom. The same populations listed above may attend the mass vaccination clinic as well as the next eligible population:

* Healthy individuals age 24 and younger who are members of the UMBC community.

The vaccinations are free.  However, you must present your UMBC ID card and have proof of age.

At this time, we do not have information on providing the H1N1 vaccine to the general population. UMBC’s scheduled appointment dates and clinic are only for members of the UMBC population listed above.

We appreciate your patience as we wait for additional information. We have received confirmation from the State Benefits Division that the H1N1 vaccine will be covered under all of our medical plans (Aetna, CareFirst, United Healthcare) through June 30, 2010. There will not be an in-network co-pay for the H1N1 vaccine. Initial shipments will only be available to priority categories listed above. We will notify employees when the vaccine has been released for use by the general public.  At that time, all participants in any of our medical plans may contact their provider about obtaining the vaccine.

If you have questions about the H1N1 vaccine, call UHS at ext. 5-2542 and press “1” at the voice prompt or contact your health care provider.
