Students at Risk: Helping Latin American Immigrant Youth Succeed (10/23)

Our Fall 2009 Public Policy Forum will present perspectives on the Latin American immigrant family experience in the U.S. and feature an interactive discussion of strategies to help Latin American immigrant students adapt to and succeed in U.S. schools. Speakers include nationally recognized author and researcher Carola Suárez-Orozco of New York University; UMBC Professor of Economics Tim Gindling and Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Linguistics Sara Poggio; and Karen Woodson, director of ESOL/Bilingual Programs for the Montgomery County Public School System. Hector Torres of PROSABER Emergency Management Consulting will moderate the discussion.

This event will be Friday, October 23, 8:30-10:30 a.m., at the World Trade Center in Baltimore, in the Constellation Room. The panel is sponsored by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the UMBC Department of Public Policy and the Maryland Institute for Policy Analysis and Research.
