This workshop provides basic, sustainable principles and practices for managing money while overcoming vagueness about finances, increasing awareness of spending patterns, decreasing financial stress and optimizing self-care.
The course is comprised of two two-hour sessions. To attend the second session, participants must have attended the first. There is a month between sessions to track and analyze your spending patterns.
Session one, “Learning the Ropes and Setting the Stage for Change” will be Tuesday, October 27, 9-11 a.m., in The Commons, Room 331.
This session will cover:
* A system for identifying our spending “blind spots” and attitudinal knots
* Tools for coping with anxiety about money
* Simple rules for getting and staying out of debt
* The simple system for recording your spending patterns
* Difficult money conversations with partners, kids and other relatives
* The government’s Making Home Affordable program
Session two, “Launching Your Personal Spending Strategy,” will be Wednesday, December 2, 9-11 a.m., at the University Center, Room 310.
This session will cover:
* How to allocate your money to demonstrate self-care, build self-esteem, plan for the future, honor your responsibilities and still enjoy yourself!
* How to negotiate with creditors, collection agencies and the IRS
* To charge or not to charge?
* Using the “B word” (bankruptcy)
* Difficult money conversations, revisited
* Your new spending plan
