Vehicular Traffic and Pedestrian Crosswalk Alerts

During August, there have been a number of traffic control and roadway signage changes accomplished on campus which all drivers and pedestrians should be aware of:

Existing bus stops at the intersections of Hilltop Circle and Hilltop Road, Hilltop Circle and Center Road and Walker Avenue and Hilltop Circle have been recently re-painted and extended. These bus stops have been improved to provide safer stopping and boarding areas for MTA and UMBC Transit buses. These areas have been marked “No-Parking.”

Park Road (located to the east of the Physics Building) was a two-way street and is currently a one-way in the direction of Poplar Avenue from Commons Drive. Drivers coming from Center Road on Poplar must now continue straight to Hilltop Circle as there is no longer a right turn onto Park Road. This change in traffic pattern makes possible the addition of two new bus stops for UMBC Transit on Park Road to the right hand side of the Park Road roadway.

Two new pedestrian crosswalks have been developed at Commons Drive and Park Road intersections to accommodate increased foot traffic en route to the new bus stops. Drivers need to yield to pedestrians in these marked crossings.
