Secondary navigation is pretty sloppy and counter-intuitive. I appreciate some of the new design elements such as the larger spotlight graphics but the clumps of headlines/text all over the page are a navigational nightmare.

It’s also kind of telling that the “Community” section is now in the least accessible point of the webpage whereas it (or atleast the myUMBC link) used to be in the most readily accessible.

The lower navigation bar… is an okay idea and will be helpful to many users for navigation but the design feels really awkward. Should probably mimic the upper navigation bar with some adjustments to place less emphasis on it so that the user’s eyes still do not slide to it first. I really dislike that the lower navbar is centered instead of justified.

Layout would be much improved with the large spotlight in the center like it was, “community and events” on one side, “headlines and announcements” on the other, and “did you know above the spotlight, so that the spotlight is in the bottom center. The spotlight is big enough to be eye-catching on its own, so to place it in the most attention-getting spot on a webpage, the upper-left corner, renders every other section invisible at first glance and cluttered and monotonous after a closer looks.

  2. Oh, I like that Insights is a blog now. =]

  3. I LOVE the new layout – its so much cleaner! I totally disagree that its cluttered or counter-intuitive. I’ve been a designer for 15 years and this new layout incorporates many of the new directions in web design and user-interface.

MUCH improved from the previous version!
